Charles Kimball speaking at an event.A renowned Christian scholar of Islam and longtime participant in Christian-Muslim engagement, Charles Kimball is an author, analyst and professor of comparative religion at the University of Oklahoma.

Kimball will give this year’s al-Ghazali Lecture, Truth Over Fear: Overcoming Islamophobia Through Education, Dialogue and Cooperation, in a virtual format on Oct. 20.

His talk will draw from his sixth book, Truth Over Fear: Combating the Lies About Islam—A Guide for Christians and Muslims Working Together (2016). In the book, Kimball provides resources to address what has become “the mainstreaming of Islamophobia” by politicians and religious leaders for their own gain. Truth Over Fear demystifies Islam, the world’s second-largest religion, and provides practical guidance on taking the first steps toward dialogue, shared ministry and community building with Muslim neighbors.

Kimball’s work focuses on the Middle East, Islam, Jewish-Christian-Muslim relations, and the intersection of religion and politics in the U.S. He is a frequent lecturer in universities and church-related settings, as well as an expert analyst who has been interviewed by more than 1,000 local, national, and international media in the past 20 years.

The Al-Ghazali virtual lecture will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Admission is free but reservations are required; an access link to the event will be provided closer to the event date.
