Bluejay First Program

Bluejay First Program

A community for first-generation students at Elmhurst University.

Being the first in your family to attend college is something to be proud of and you don’t have to navigate it alone. Bluejay First is a cohort-based program designed to support, celebrate and empower first-generation college students at Elmhurst. Through a combination of workshops, community-building experiences and personalized support, students gain the knowledge, confidence and connections needed to succeed in your first year at Elmhurst University.

Why Should You Apply?
  • Bluejay First is open to all incoming first-year, first-generation students – ensuring you’re making connections with others who have a very similar experience!
  • We know that first-generation students often face unique challenges because college systems can be unfamiliar. We aim to help overcome those challenges by providing clear guidance, a strong support network and access to people who understand your experience.
  • Those who successfully complete program requirements will also receive $1,000 for their sophomore year.
What You’ll Gain
  • A strong community by connecting with other first-generation students.
  • Tools on how to navigate college specifically as a first-gen student.
  • Gain financial confidence by understanding how financial aid works and how to make informed decisions.
  • A network of faculty, staff and current students who were first-gen themselves.
Take the Next Step!
  • Submit your application by July 1, which includes a few short-answer questions. Don’t stress though – we want to get to know you!
  • Applications will be reviewed and notifications will be shared by August 1.
  • If accepted into the program, you’ll need to attend at least eight (8) workshops/events that will support where you are within your first year and allow you to connect with your peers.
