Debra Meyer

Dr. Meyer earned a BA from Purdue University in education and psychology prior to teaching in a 5th/6th-grade team and developmental 2nd grade in Mesa, Arizona. She earned her PhD from the University of Texas–Austin in educational psychology.

Her research has examined the relationships between motivation and emotion in classroom contexts and how educators become teacher leaders. Dr. Meyer has presented at national and international conferences and authored over 50 publications and has been an editorial board member of the American Education Research Journal, Journal of Educational Psychology, Journal of Experimental Education and Theory into Practice. Dr. Meyer currently serves as co-chair on the Publications Committee for the American Psychological Association’s Division 15-Educational Psychology. She has a 2023 book on classroom research with co-authors Julianne Turner (Notre Dame) and Nancy Perry (University of British Columbia) entitled, Classroom Research Partnerships, published by Routledge. Dr. Meyer is currently working on a book, Classroom Assessment for New Teachers, under contract to Kendall Hunt.

Dr. Meyer has received awards for teaching, advising and professional service and holds memberships in Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta Phi and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies.
