The Rev. Vanessa Lovelace, Ph.D., is a well-regarded biblical scholar, and associate dean and associate professor of Hebrew Bible/ Old Testament at Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, Pa.
Her teaching and research interests include interpreting biblical texts using literary criticism and theory of gender and nation through a womanist lens.
On March 16, Rev. Lovelace will present Race, Gender and Nation, and the Politics of Belonging, this year’s Genevieve Staudt Intercultural Lecture at Elmhurst University.
Lovelace is co-editor of Womanist Interpretations of the Bible: Expanding the Discourse, and has published articles in many edited volumes, including The Hebrew Bible: Feminist and Intersectional Perspectives, Women and the Society of Biblical Literature, The Oxford Handbook of the Minor Prophets, and The Oxford Encyclopedia of Bible and Gender Studies.
Lovelace’s lecture will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, in Schaible Science Center, Illinois Hall. Established in 2002, the Genevieve Staudt Intercultural Lecture is held each spring to coincide with Women’s History Month, and is part of the University’s Women’s History Celebration. Genevieve Staudt joined then-Elmhurst College in 1932 as a professor in the education department. She became the first woman administrator at the University, serving first as dean of women and then dean of students. Staudt served the University for nearly 30 years.
