“Precision health” considers how information about a person’s genes, environment and behavior can be used to improve their health.

Jey McCreight, a science communication consultant for Verily Life Sciences, is a leading voice for making the field of precision health more inclusive for transgender people.

On Wednesday, Oct. 9, McCreight will present “Trust the Science: A Transgender Biologist’s Introduction to Sex, Gender and the Rising War on Trans Rights,” this year’s William R. Johnson Intercultural Lecture at Elmhurst University.

Before joining Verily Life Sciences, McCreight created and executed 23andMe’s research communication program. They also led 23andMe’s LGBTQ+ employee resource group and spearheaded major trans-inclusivity updates across the company’s product, research program and workplace culture. McCreight received a Ph.D. in genomics from the University of Washington.

McCreight’s passion for educating people about the intersection of science and social justice began 15 years ago, after starting a blog that was featured on the Colbert Report, BBC, CNN and more. Since then, McCreight has given almost 100 talks internationally to a range of audiences.

The public lectures and other cultural programming at Elmhurst University support community engagement and lifelong learning, and prepare our students to thrive as adaptive leaders. The William R. Johnson Intercultural Lecture begins at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, in the Frick Center, Founders Lounge. Admission is free, but reservations are encouraged at elmhurst.edu/cultural.
