College to Offer Summer Music Camps for Kids and Adults

This summer, Elmhurst College will offer a wealth of opportunities for musicians of all ages to advance their skills or try something new.

Whether you’re interested in studying jazz theory, playing chamber music or playing the acoustic guitar, Elmhurst has a program for you.

Jazz Combo Camp
Elmhurst’s Jazz Combo Camp is a three-day program for middle and high school students who are interested in learning jazz basics in small combo settings. Open to instrumentalists of all kinds, the camp welcomes newcomers to jazz. The camp is taught by members of the College’s music department faculty.

Jason & Jeremy’s Jazz Theory Boot Camp
Designed for high school and college music teachers as well as college students, this seven-day program offers in-depth training in jazz harmony with accomplished jazz musicians Jason Smith and Jeremy Fox. The camp is beginner-friendly, with workshop topics ranging from jazz theory and vocal jazz arranging to jazz piano and recording studio production.

Chamber Music Academy
This five-day program offers conservatory-level training for woodwind, brass, string and percussion students interested in performing in small ensembles. Academy instructors are Elmhurst College faculty members who perform with such ensembles as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Chorus and Lyric Opera.

The Chamber Music Academy runs from July 21 through July 25 and includes a final concert. For more information or to register, see the Chamber Music Academy’s website.

Credo Prelude Chicago
Designed for middle and high school string and piano players, Credo Prelude Chicago is a one-week chamber music program for intermediate to advanced players. The program includes chamber music coaching as well as solo and group performances. Students also participate in a service component that allows them to share their musical gifts with the community.

Acoustic Guitar Boot Camp
Taught by Elmhurst College music faculty, this five-day camp immerses high school students in classical guitar, including hands-on instruction and solo performances. Any player from beginner to experienced is welcome.
