Columnist and Author George Will to Give Rudolf G. Schade Lecture on March 9

George Will is a political commentator, a prolific author and a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist whose work appears in newspapers across 47 states and four countries. The author of numerous books on politics, political theory and baseball, his most recent is American Happiness and Discontents: The Unruly Torrent, 2008-2020.

On March 9, he will present The Political Argument Today, this year’s Rudolf G. Schade Lecture on History, Ethics and Law.

George Will’s newspaper column has been syndicated by The Washington Post since 1974, and he won a Pulitzer Prize for commentary for his columns in 1977. He also was a regular contributing editor to Newsweek magazine, and eight collections of Will’s Newsweek and Washington Post columns have been published, the most recent being One Man’s America: The Pleasures and Provocations of Our Singular Nation (2008).

Will also is widely known for his television commentary. He was a founding panelist on ABC television’s This Week and appeared regularly on that program for more than three decades. He also has appeared regularly on Fox News programs, and currently is a contributor to MSNBC and NBC News.

A highly regarded writer on baseball, Will’s 1991 book Men At Work: The Craft of Baseball topped the New York Times bestseller list for two months. A lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, his most recent book on the sport is A Nice Little Place on the North Side: Wrigley Field at One Hundred (2014).

The Schade lecture will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, in Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel (190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst). Admission is $15 for the general public and free for Elmhurst University students, faculty, staff and alumni. Tickets are available by visiting elmhurst.edu/cultural.
