Mariana Gariazzo
Mariana Gariazzo earned a Master of Music from Yale University and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Texas at Austin. She has been a recipient of several awards and distinctions in solo and chamber music categories including Fundacion Antorchas, Juventudes Musicales, Universidad Nacional de Cuyo Symphony Orchestra competition, and the Robert Wilson Award for Outstanding Woodwind Performance at Yale. In addition, she has been awarded multiple grants such as the Innovative Pedagogy Grant, the Arts Enhancement Grant, and the Melbern G. Glasscock Center Co-Sponsorship Grant, the Academic Innovation Grant, the High Impact Innovation Practices, and the Advance Climate Together Grant at Texas A&M University.
Gariazzo enjoys a growing reputation as an engaging and thought-provoking pedagogue, lecturer and performer. She is a sought-after clinician and serves on the adjudication panels of national and international competitions including the National Flute Association Young Artist and High School Competitions, the University Interscholastic League Texas Solo and State Ensemble Competition (TSSEC), the Houston Flute Club, Peruvian Youth Flute Competition, the ENKOR International Music Competition, the Kujala International Piccolo Competition, and the International Low Flutes Society Competition, as well as various regional contests in woodwind and chamber music divisions.
Her research focuses on new music by Latin American composers, and she has served as a guest artist and speaker on the subject at prominent venues and conferences in Europe, Asia, Latin and North America. In solo and orchestral settings, she has performed in South America and the United States with such ensembles as the Austin Symphony Orchestra, the Oak Ridge Symphony, the Santa Fe Symphony, the Philharmonia Orchestra at Yale, New Music New Haven, Neither Music, the National Youth Orchestra of Peru, the Academic Orchestra at Colon Theater, the National University of Cuyo Symphony, and the National Orchestra of Argentina. She has been invited to present and perform at multiple National Flute Association Conventions, the Texas Music Association Conference, the Puerto Rico Flute Symposium (Puerto Rico), World Flutes Festival (Argentina), the International Low Flutes Festival (USA, Japan), the International Flute Festival of Lima (Peru) and university campuses across Latin America and the USA.
Gariazzo serves as Program Chair for the 53rd National Flute Association Convention and is an immediate Past President of the Chicago Flute Club. As a devoted educator, she holds academic positions at Elmhurst University, the University of Illinois Chicago, and VanderCook College of Music. She actively collaborates with composers in commissioning, recording and performing new music for flutes.
